Planet Nine Peeking From the Edge of the Solar System

Planet X! This terminology is certainly familiar to conspiracy theorists. But this term first appeared when Percival Lowell predicted the presence of another planet that would disrupt the orbit of Uranus and started the search for the 9th planet.

Long story short, after Lowell's death, Clyde Tombaugh found Pluto. But Pluto is too small to interfere with Uranus' orbit. However, the idea of another planet on the edge of the Solar System still persists. Both in the context of observational searches and conspiracy theorists.

The existence of a planet through mathematical calculations is not new. At least history records that. Neptune was the first planet discovered by calculation by John Couch Adams of England, and Urbain Jean Joseph Le Verrier of France, separately. Both predict the presence of a large planet that disrupts the orbit of Uranus.

The calculations made were then confirmed by observations. Neptune was observed by Johann Gottried Galle at the Berlin Observatory based on Le Verrier's calculations. Some calculations work, some fail. The presence of the planet Vulkan between Mercury and the Sun has never been found.

Well, a century after Percival Lowell predicted the presence of planet X, the same calculations were put forward to find the 9th planet!

This time the results of these calculations were submitted by Konstantin Batygin and Mike Brown. The mathematical modeling and computational simulations carried out by both indicate the presence of a massive planet in the Kuiper Belt area which is codenamed Planet Nine. The name Planet Nine is used as an indication of the replacement of Pluto the 9th planet which has been reclassified as a dwarf planet. In 2003, Mike Brown discovered Eris whom he called a candidate for the 10th planet which sparked controversy over the IAU's redefinition of the planet.

Other names used for planet Nine are George, Planet of the Apes, Jehoshaphat and Phattie.

The two researchers from Caltech found evidence of a planet categorized as a super-Earth planet with a mass of about 10 Earth masses, on the edge of the Solar System. Precisely in the Kuiper belt area. This planet is predicted to have an oval orbit and its closest position from the Sun is about 200 AU or nearly 20 times the distance of Neptune - the Sun! Even this planet takes 10,000 - 20,000 years to get around the sun.

But, keep in mind, this planet is still not confirmed its existence through observations. So officially, this planet Nine doesn't exist yet.
